According to estimates, the smart elevator technology market was worth USD 18.75 billion in 2019 and will be worth USD 38.27 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 9.1 percent over the projected period.
FREMONT, CA: The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the elevator industry over the last decade. Any type of elevator solution may perform proactive, condition-based analysis and predictive maintenance by leveraging IoT. Smart elevators can monitor performance, make real-time maintenance decisions, provide updated status, and advance reporting, among other things, allowing one to manage and monitor the elevator remotely.
Different types of connectivity are used to control or monitor a smart elevator. The elevator communicates with the elevator controller via the GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) pin or UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) and connects to the custom hardware via a Wi-Fi or LAN interface. Hardware communicates with IoT central and sends signals (any change in GPIO pin or register value) to it. The hardware will identify when the elevator controller alters the signal, and in that case, the hardware will send the signal to the IoT central.

IoT central will provide the data to the logic application layer, which will take it down to the core logic to build a meaningful signal, fault prediction, and fault detection, which will then be communicated to the user interface through WebSocket, a computer communications protocol. The next-generation IoT Elevator is outperforming existing elevators in terms of efficiency. There are numerous advantages to employing a smart elevator system, which can be better appreciated by briefly examining the elevator use-cases:
Predict Destination: Here, the system will use Artificial Intelligence to make a prediction (AI). The technology identifies the user's face and sends their data to an IoT-enabled cloud. The IoT cloud will verify the user's authorization before running the Machine Learning (ML) model algorithm and determining the user's final destination floor. Suppose the user has previously visited numerous levels. In that case, the elevator will send a voice message using the VoIP protocol, and the user can respond by speaking and telling the arrival floor using the voice command.
Prevent Unauthorized Access: Assume that a group of people utilizes the elevator to go to their destination. The smart elevator now only permits persons who have fingerprint access or a smart card to use it to enter the elevator to use it. The RS232 DB9 connector connects the elevator to a fingerprint sensor or smart card, and the data is shared using UART. PSOC6 hardware will use the Modbus protocol to read the register and send the signals to an IoT-enabled public cloud. As a result, only authorized individuals should use the elevator.
