The construction landscape is rapidly changing—paper drawings, sketches, and design plans are giving way to technologies like drones, 3D models, and also augmented reality.
FREMONT, CA: Augmented reality (AR) for short is a very trending technology in construction. The construction teams are always on a quest for identifying ways to improve safety and productivity on-site. The immersive visualization of Bentley’s SYNCHRO XR application with HoloLense 2 offers a seamless and quick way to evaluate the project plan against the real constraints of a job site. SYNCHRO XR, in recent times, showcased the new capabilities of Microsoft’s HoloLense 2 with a preview application built into the SYNCHRO digital construction environment. HoloLens 2 enables one to see the surroundings with holograms with the help of head-mounted devices, which also appears to be a part of a physical job site.

The interaction pattern for HoloLense 2 has been entirely revamped. Its hand tracking feature has been improved to provide enhanced and more natural gestures, which allows the users to reach out and touch holograms with their bare hands. SYNCHRO XR also takes complete advantage of these new opportunities and makes working with digital twins intuitive. The users can operate in collaboration in a shared holographic mixed reality, by leveraging natural hand gestures to plan construction logistics, slide back and forth via a construction timeline, and select and inspect elements.
Mixed Reality
HoloLense is said to be a form of augmented reality that enables people to see their surroundings and the holograms which appear to be a part of the physical space. This scenario is very different from virtual reality, where the user is completely immersed in a virtual world and detached from physical reality. The augmented reality revives the concept of a digital twin that is connected with physical reality. Therefore it alters the definition and nature of what is considered as reality.
Multiple User Experience
Interactive spatial interactions with 3D and 4D models can replace the use of 2D screens and mouse input. This feature is vital when working on holograms utilizing share experience, which allows unlimited users to take part and interact with holographic model data. The users have the option to even pass holographic 3D objects to each other in the shared experience mode.
