One will need at least 5 Mbps of upload and download speed to connect effortlessly with BIM 360. Start with an internet speed test and, if required, check with the Internet Service Provider (ISP) about upgrading the service. One may also be able to upgrade the internet connection online.
Install Updates
On getting a speedy internet connection, the user can install the latest Civil 3D, Revit, and Desktop Connector updates on the local machine to ensure connection to the cloud. The subscriber will also need the Desktop Connector to connect their local machine to the BIM 360 account. Desktop Connector for BIM 360 offers a connection between the local files and the Document Management module in the cloud. If one does not already have it installed, then make sure to download and install it.
Multiple Machines
If one has never worked remotely and needs to set up a new machine, they need to make sure not to sign into multiple devices with the same user name. This aspect will cause conflicts resulting in lost work. If the user wants to update different desktops or laptops, they need to log-out completely from one before logging in from another.
Empowering the Best Possible Performance
The first time the user opens the model or file, all of the data and related links will be downloaded into the home machine's local cache. Be patient, as this process can take some time. Once the subscriber has opened a model or file, they should not clear the cache for any reason. Doing so will require one to start the caching process again. Files that were previously opened on the local machine should already be cached.
Revit Accelerator
Another essential requirement is that the user needs to be running the Revit Accelerator service. This provision is crucial in confirming that models are adequately synced in the cloud. If the internet connection is interrupted, the operator can continue working locally, and the accelerator service will sync when back online. If one has any issues accessing the data from Civil 3D or Revit, they need to guarantee that the local firewall is not blocking access.
