Ever since the first commercial passenger elevator transformed the world’s skyline, skyscrapers have become a practical reality, turning real estate on its head—from the first floor to the penthouse. Over the decades, elevators have evolved by leaps and bounds, transforming from steam-powered mechanical transport equipment for shifting goods to an essential modern-day amenity. In today’s visually stimulating world, businesses cannot overlook the fact that an elevator is an extension of their interiors. Imagine walking into a building with a magnificent facade and rich colonial décor, but a tattered and outdated elevator tucked away in a secluded corner? This might leave a negative impression that the building and its elevators are not well maintained and even unsafe.

Nobody understands this paradigm better than Cabworks Custom Elevators. As a premier elevator cab interior design, fabrication, and installation company, Cabworks Custom Elevators is renowned for offering custom turn-key elevator interior solutions that reflect a building’s brand and value.

Making Elevator Experience Safer and More Enjoyable

Cabworks Custom Elevators was founded in 1996 by brother-duo Richard and Marshall Waksmundzki after they witnessed a need to change the traditional way of designing, fabricating, and installing elevator cab interiors. “We started Cabworks Custom Elevators with the vision of equipping elevator companies, owners and property managers with a new and better approach to revamping elevator cab interiors. Our decades of experience provide clients with a truly full scope solution as per their requirements,” asserts Richard Waksmundzki, President and Managing Partner at Cabworks Custom Elevators.

Richard explains that back in the day, companies would ship fully constructed huge, heavy elevator walls. As elevator industry veterans, the Waksmundzki’s understood the plight of field installation teams in handling and moving around these heavy, finished walls on the construction sites, which was not conducive to everyday installs. “Our aim was to make the work safer and easier for the field teams. Allow them to focus on the mechanical side of the elevator installation. Allow them to work in an environment where they do not have to worry about decorative finishes. As a leading architectural elevator interior and specialty products manufacturing and installation company, we then come in to enhance the aesthetics of the elevator,” says Richard.

Since then, Cabworks Custom Elevators has followed that same approach and has been alleviating the burden of field installation teams while elevating the look and feel of the finished product. “We are a diverse company that can offer products for all situations, starting from single to multi-car projects in high rise buildings of all shapes and sizes,” states Richard.

Cabworks Custom Elevators caters its services and products primarily to major elevator companies. However, its broad-ranging clientele comprises independent elevator companies, architects, designers, general contractors, property owners, and property management companies. “Our clients bring a design on a piece of paper. We help them to convert that design into fruition as a finished product and make it a reality,” emphasizes Marshall Waksmundzki, Managing Partner at Cabworks Custom Elevators. Once the design is received from the architects, designers, or general contractors of a building, the company factors in various parameters, such as code compliance, weight limitations and restrictions, flame spread, and fire rating to fulfill the expectations of the clients. Often, the teams involved in these processes face several challenges around making their custom products lightweight and enhancing the cab interior with appropriate materials. As experts in the industry, Cabworks Custom Elevators is perfectly poised to address all these challenges.

Quality Architectural Elevator Cab Interiors at Competitive Prices

In order to help businesses step up to a premium cab replacement, Cabworks Custom Elevators has come up with its stylish CabArray line of custom elevator interiors. The company offers elevator cabinterior assembly kits, primarily comprised of elevator ceilings, lighting systems, wall panels, frames, reveals, and flooring. “CabArray suite of solutions is designed for quick installs while giving a high-end elevator appearance to standard elevators at an affordable cost structure,” explains Richard. Besides, CabArray provides an easier design structure that can be installed within a day. With CabArray premium options, Cabworks Custom Elevators works with its customers to create high-quality, convenient, and stylish cab interiors for virtually any application.

The company has recently launched its patented premier elevator sanitizing system—Sanctuary Elevators UVC™—to ensure a pathogen-free and safe elevator environment for today’s world. Sanctuary Elevators UVC™ powered by ESP-DLux leverages UVC light technology in a custom, programmable system that automatically cleans up to a Log-3 reduction of bacteria, mold, viruses, and fungus from surfaces and the air in cab interiors. Initially, the team of experts at Cabworks Custom Elevators started exploring the possibilities of leveraging UVC lighting for their office water systems and ventilation systems to provide a better and cleaner working environment for in-house employees. “We started reviewing systems for the office. When the pandemic started and disrupted life as we know it, safety became an immediate priority,” says Richard. Considering the need to protect riders and building occupants from the ongoing life-threatening infectious disease, the company decided to incorporate UVC lighting into the elevators to make them as safe and clean as possible.

Cabworks Custom Elevators’ clients can either choose manual control or a fully automated programmable system that monitors usage and puts the unit out of service for cleanings. Once sanitized, the elevator automatically resumes service. Cabworks Custom Elevators has secured the patent for the product in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

“If installed and used in the correct manner, Sanctuary Elevators UVC™ will ensure that our clients’ elevators turn into the safest and cleanest place in the entire building,” states Richard.

Out-Performing Competitors with Expertise

In a bid to provide clients with better services, Cabworks Custom Elevators works closely with them to fulfill their needs. Whenever a client approaches the company with a design idea, its expert team engages in a detailed discussion with them to figure out the feasibility of the design and the best way to make it happen. The company scrutinizes all designs, materials, and installation methods to ensure that everything is code compliant. Moreover, the team handles all the necessary weight calculations, obtains all material samples, and creates all the drawings in-house. They ensure everything will pass the rigorous and required safety tests that elevators go through.

We are a diverse company that can offer products for all situations, starting from single to multi-car projects in Class A high rise buildings of all shapes and sizes

Over the years, Cabworks Custom Elevators has carved a unique niche in the market. The company’s impressive track record in delivering successful projects stands as a testimony to its commitment to providing quality architectural elevator cab interiors at competitive prices. Cabworks Custom Elevators has seamlessly completed projects of all sizes, from simple single cabs to multiple cabs using sophisticated materials. Marshall recalls their engagement with an elevator company that approached Cabworks Custom Elevators as they wanted a curved and angled wood panel system for the cab interior, which is not compatible with standard substrates. To deliver an impeccable end product to the client, the Cabworks Custom Elevators team curved a metal pan substrate and attached the wood veneer to it with linear lighting all the way through and around. The project involved enhancing the durability of 49 elevators and ensuring that they are easily repairable for minor damages in the field itself. While the idea seemed to be nearly impossible, Cabworks Custom Elevators effectively turned that design into reality.

Committed to Excellence

“We built the company on the core values of integrity, teamwork, respect, and responsibility. We’ve been very fortunate to have some tremendous mentors in our career, and we pride ourselves on having a loyal and hard-working team that shares the same values as the company,” says Richard. He attributes Cabworks Custom Elevators’ success to its employees, who have been sailing through these unprecedented times with firm determination and dedication toward helping the clients. All in all, customer satisfaction has always been at the heart of Cabworks Custom Elevators. “Our commitment to excellence and dedication to customer service is second to none. We are always there to help make life easier for our customers. Be it a single car project or 90-car project, we put in an equal amount of effort to attain everything that the customer desires,” asserts Marshall.

As a signatory to IUEC (International Union of Elevator Constructors), Cabworks Custom Elevators has the authority to work all across the country and is currently licensed to operate in nine states with efforts to raise that to 25 by 2023. Steering ahead, Cabworks Custom Elevators’ motto is to push its new product line and continue expanding its national presence. “The pandemic wreaked havoc on every industry around the globe, and the elevator industry is no different. We are helping the industry grow in these trying times by moving people safely and conveniently in the buildings through our Sanctuary Elevators UVC™ and why not make everything look incredible at the same time” concludes Richard.
