Founded in 2012, ATIS Elevator Inspections is a national elevator inspection and consulting services provider with more than 140 Qualified Elevator Inspectors (QEIs) servicing all 50 states. They manage every aspect of conveyance systems on behalf of building owners and property managers by combining objective assessments, unparalleled expertise, and innovative technology. “Our roots go back to the time when the elevator inspection industry was very fragmented, comprising several small local elevator inspection companies who lacked proper knowledge of the national marketplace as a whole. So, we decided to bring the change by holistically addressing all the needs of clients and making elevator ownership easier,” mentions Charlie Slater, COO, ATIS Elevator Inspections.

Staying true to this objective, ATIS today enables clients to shed the burden of managing various jurisdictions with its certificate management program. The company tracks all the data about the key inspection and service dates and makes it available in the client portal. As such, building owners can better understand their position in terms of compliance requirements. After every inspection, the company consolidates all the crucial reports at one single location to streamline the process of distributing the paperwork to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). “We capture all pertinent data concerning every conveyance we manage, which includes devices inspected by others, into our system. With this data in a centralized location we are able to closely monitor the jurisdictional compliance of each conveyance and ensure our customers never miss an inspection date. We even handle any fees that need to be paid to the jurisdiction,” Slater mentions.

ATIS also provides inspection and test witnessing services in all third-party jurisdictions to ensure that conveyance systems follow all the jurisdiction requirements and adhere to proper safety and maintenance standards. The company has designed the ATIS alert system that continuously tracks the health of elevators and presents the information through an easy-to-understand dashboard, enabling building owners to see the status of their conveyance equipment and stay compliant.

Last but not least, the company offers elevator management and consulting services. The experienced and expert team at ATIS works in liaison with its clients’ team to perform pre-purchase due diligence studies, recapitalization planning and forecasting, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) tracking, lifecycle assessment, maintenance contract negotiation, to name a few. Not stopping there, the company understands that people interact with vertical transportation systems every day, so their design has to meet users’ expectations and take care of even the smallest details. As such, ATIS conducts traffic studies, equipment selection on the basis of the design, QEI acceptance testing, and operations and Maintenance (O&M) documentation review. This enables clients to reduce their expenditure and operate more efficiently. “A crucial aspect of our consulting service is the maintenance management program where we manage the maintenance companies for our customers,” says Slater. For instance, the company has recently worked with a New York-based retailer. The client needed to repair an elevator because of water damage under a strict deadline. So, they contacted an elevator maintenance company who quoted $140,000 for the project and in a time frame that would have delayed the store reopening for at least two months, over a month past the store’s deadline. ATIS’s consultants have experience with all types of equipment and relationships with manufacturers and machine shops within local markets. Some maintenance companies simply do not have the benefit of having performed a major repair to equipment they themselves did not manufacturer, which means they generally just replace foreign equipment with equipment they manufacturer instead of repairing it or replacing it with equipment from the original manufacturer. Working in liaison with the retailer, ATIS was able to leverage its experience and relationships to help the maintenance company reduce the cost of their proposal down to $76000. Apart from these significant cost savings, the client was also able to make the store operational on their predetermined date. In a nutshell, ATIS is a one-stop-shop for all elevator maintenance needs.

Backed by the prowess of many such instances of client success, ATIS has drawn a clear roadmap for the coming years. They have plans to emerge as a full-service elevator management company that will maximize uptime and minimize total cost of ownership. “We always focus on three cornerstones: safety, compliance, and performance. And, in the coming days, we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that our clients avail all these three benefits,” Slater concludes.
